Summertime and the living is…
The summer has been up and down for me. I am now a “certified” college graduate, or just certifiable. You can look at it either way.;)
Since graduation, I’ve doing things around the house, performing a particularly grueling job search (I realize I’m not the only one out there), and just getting some rest from the four, and some change, years that I spent in my head. Now, I would just like to be doing something with my days and contributing financially to the household. I’d also like to get a *new-to-me* car. My current one is still driving, but on its last wheels.
In other news, we did actually get to go on a REAL vacation for longer that a weekend. The last couple of years have been filled with “new house” stuff,” school, and work. We haven’t really had time to be out of town for any length of time. Plus, I’m pretty neurotic about the cats, so it takes a lot for me to leave. However, we planned to go to California and actually did it! I had a great school friend that I trusted to take care of the cats, so it made things easier on my sanity.
California was great. I finally made it back to San Francisco and got to see more of it during this visit. We also went down to L.A. and spent a couple of days with my middle brother. Fun times!
We got to tour Alcatraz Island, along with the buildings, which was way more interesting than I thought it would be. I wanted to go and was excited about it, but it exceeded my expectations.

We also went to the SFMOMA, which of course, was amazing. We spent about 6 hours walking and walking and walking around the museum. So much to see and we didn’t see all of it, but most of it. The highlight for me was actually getting to see a Rivera and Kahlo up close and personal. We saw so much more than that, as well…

Leaving San Francisco and the 55 degree weather was difficult, but we managed and made the drive down the coast along HWY 1. I’ve made the HWY 1 drive along the Oregon coast, but the California coast rivals it. So gorgeous.

Along the way, we were driving along and I spotted a beach up ahead. It was just a blip on a screen, but I caught something in that second and made Tripp stop at the turn-out. Oh my god! Elephant Seals!

This line of seals continued up the other side of the beach as well. It was one of the big highlights of the trip.
We finally made it down to L.A. We stayed at The Standard Hotel, not realizing how trendy it is. Great hotel room, but not usually how we roll. That made it interesting. Let’s just say that we had a few good laughs out of it.
Time with my brother in his element was great. Chad is like a whirlwind, in a good way, and always has been. I think he got all of my mine and my oldest brother’s energy. Anyway, he was a wonderful tour guide, driving us around everywhere. We saw some great sights and ate some good food.

Overall, a blast of a trip. More pictures here

Now, here I am on my birthday and I need to get this day going. I have to run some errands and do some stuff around the house.
