Winter sets in...
It’s been a while since I’ve posted. It’s been a crazy ride over here at the 322. I got a job at a Head Start center working with families back in Aug/Sept. and I’ve been pretty busy adjusting and working. I actually do not get online that often outside my job, so I haven’t had a presence on here in a while. I do get on Facebook now and then, but I’ve even cut...

Stuck at home on a beautiful day.
I’m home sick from work, today. I have an angry intestinal sickness that is finally… seemingly… letting up. I can hardly sit here and type I’m so weak, but I’ve either been in the bed or in the recliner all day and cannot stand to sit in one position anymore. It’s been a busy time at work and I really need to get back to it. Too much to do before next week. To...

Autumn is a tease.
Today was beautiful. The cooler weather allowed me to get outside, comfortably, and plant some seeds. Turnip and lettuce seeds were placed in the soil and watered and next week spinach will follow. The downside is that with the cooler weather and a schedule still in the adjustment period, I was very sleepy this afternoon and slept for about an hour and a half. Now it feels like it should be about...

Quiet Days
I’m feeling a little introverted these days. It’s not a depressing kind of introversion, just a still type. I don’t know if it’s the heat or what, but I feel I need to sit quietly and reflect on a few things. Nothing serious, just reflection. It feels good to be quiet. Along with this, my mind has been calmer as well. Not completely calm. That would take a miracle. There...

On having and caring for animals of any kind...
Warning: Very long post follows Let me get this out. This might not seem like a positive post. It might even seem like a rant (which it sort of is, actually), but it is something that I have strong feelings about and a subject that is close to my heart. I have to preface this by mentioning that this is nothing personal, although my thoughts and opinions have been pulled from specific incidences...

Melty
It has been HOT here in the Southeast. I dream of October. Hell, I’d take September, right now. It is supposed to rain, today, and cool off a bit in the next week, but this is pretty miserable. Last night, T and I went out with some friends for dinner and standing outside, afterward, was like standing under a 95 degree wet blanket. I cannot stand it. Between the heat, sweat, and the wine, I...

Quicken's Money Saving Tips →
Thought that this was pretty useful. There a lot of these type bits out there, but this one breaks it down by room. Some of these things we do, already, and some we choose NOT to do (I love our Showtime and HBO. I have my vices.). However, this is a good reminder. Just thought I’d share.

What the rain does.
I’ve been feeling a bit under-the-weather the last couple of days. I don’t know if it’s the barometric pressure or what, but it’s gotta stop. Speaking of the weather, we have FINALLY received rain… and tons of it. The grass has been getting crunchy underfoot and the garden has been looking sad - literally sad. It’s been so droopy and dry. However, the hard...

The Job Hunt
So, it’s been about a month since I’ve been job-hunting. I’m not here to complain, since I know that others have been spending greater amounts of time doing the same. However, it continues to be a painful process in today’s market. I knew it was going to be difficult and limiting, but I had NO idea. I’ve made a chart with the different positions that I’ve...

A productive day
I’ve been pretty productive, today. However, I’m taking a moment to post so I can document that I did have some downtime (READ: I actually have not accomplished that much, today). Things that make me happy, lately… Goldfinches at our feeder station. Delicious homemade ale - given to us by a friend. Thanks Anje! And the monkey-cats, that are always playing, play-fighting, or...

Summertime and the living is...
… well, somewhat easy. Except I don’t have a job, as-of-yet. The summer has been up and down for me. I am now a “certified” college graduate, or just certifiable. You can look at it either way.;) Since graduation, I’ve doing things around the house, performing a particularly grueling job search (I realize I’m not the only one out there), and just getting some...

Controlling neuroses is never easy.
I am about to go on vacation and have several things to finish before then. Cleaning is a big item on the list, then packing, and so on. My neuroses tend to come out swinging in situations like this. They are getting difficult to keep under wraps. I get really nervous about leaving the cats, especially Two-Tone. He is getting older, 14 years to be exact, and I get that paranoia about leaving, like...

Arugula picking
It has been a long time. So much has happened in the last several months. I graduated last Sunday, for instance. Feels good. Just hasn’t sunk in, yet. The garden is coming along. Today, I picked most of the arugula before it bolted. I guess we are having a salad tonight. There is more coming, but I have to bolt, myself. Have an appointment with a roofer.

baking... homework... and vets
So Jacob became a eunuch this week. He went into the vet on Monday morning and came home on Tuesday morning. I’ve never experienced a cat act so completely normal after castration. Two-Tone and his late brother, Rexor, both acted a bit wobbly for a couple of days. Jacob came running out of the carrier like his bat-out-of-hell self and started playing and jumping around. He seems completely...

Busy Season
I’ve been feeling ragged, lately. This semester is tiring and I have a crazy case of senioritis. I really just want to be back on a 9-5 schedule with no homework or reading to do in the evenings. I cannot wait until this is a possibility. I just have to get through the rest of this semester and the spring semester. It drags on… It is cold here and I need to do some yardwork/cleanup...

Meet Jacob
Meet Jacob. Jacob is a little kitten that wandered up to our carport a few weeks ago. He is a super sweetheart and has decided to stick around. Our feeding him probably did not have anything to do with that.;) We are generally caring for him until we can find him a good home. He is uber-friendly and is a great mouser. He brought us a huge rat a couple of weeks ago. Today, we went to the vet....

Gatlinburg Trip
This past weekend was busy, yet relaxing. Tripp and I went up to Gatlinburg, TN and rented a cabin. The cabin was nice. We spent some time inside the cabin playing pool, watching movies, sitting in the hot tub, etc.                                      You can see the upstairs bathroom window, above. I loved the pattern and the colors. We arrived on Friday, checked in, and went to get some...

Vacation!
Vacation, tomorrow! I can’t wait to get away for a few. However, I’m going to incessantly worry about the cats while I’m gone. I always do. It will be great to relax before school starts in a couple of weeks. I’m excited to go to get the last two semesters over with, but I’m also dreading it. I’ve (or I should say “we”) have a lot to do before I...

Summer Nostalgia
I love the above shot of my mom and me. I was about five and had some of the biggest cowlicks. Some things never change. That clown was a favorite until I saw Poltergeist. It then got stuffed to the bottom of my toy chest and stayed there until whoknowswhen. I like the look of the photo. It is a scanned Polaroid and has that nice vintage graininess to it. The colors are also amazing. I need to...

Bedside Play Along!
I came across Whosies Play Along last night while reading some journals and thought I’d play along. I never keep much on my bedside table except books and jewelry/bobby pins/hairbands, so mine might not be as interesting as others. Sometimes it gets out of hand (for me) and I have to clean it off. It’s funny, though. I’m one of those people that usually has multiple books going...

Herb bunches
It was time to cut back some of the herbs last week, so I did and I tied them in bunches for drying. Part of our house looks like a jungle. Included are… 2 types of oregano - Greek and Italian Lavender Catnip Catmint Lemon Balm Now I just have to wait for them to dry and then I can store them. I’m going to have tons of catnip if anyone wants.

2009 Season Beginnings
So, here we are… 2009. Another day, another garden. I’ve been neglectful about posting about our gardens, but here I am with a long intro. post. Last year, down here in Northwest Georgia, we had a major drought. We had water use limitations and what-not. We had planned to put in rain barrels regardless, but did not get them in until this year. Now, we are about back up to normal as...

The Calm
042809 Garden 003, originally uploaded by themissiah. Well, school is over for the semester and I could not be happier. I’ve spent the last week *attempting* to get things done around the house - to my loss. However, things are coming along slowly, but surely. The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. First of all, I’ve been working on schoolwork almost everyday, all day… with the exception of a couple of days where I went out of town or out in general. I’ve been going going going, with very little downtime. Last week, I was at the UTC library after class for a few nights. I’m am so sick of that place. The tornadoes and...

What's been up and a TUTORIAL! I do still create.
Uggghhhh. I’m tired. I think it’s from the never-ending dreariness and rain outside. The above picture is of Tripp’s hammock that I bought him a couple of Christmases ago. He finally got a stand for it and now there is a hammock in our carport. It is soooo comfortable. I might have to take it over when he’s not using it. In other news, I found this post with a tutorial...

Such a strange day.
Transitions, originally uploaded by themissiah. Today, I had to go into school early because one of my group partners and I had to watch a movie for a class presentation we are giving in just over a week. I went in and we watched most of the movie, which is sufficient. I then went to class and proceeded to watch the rest of America and the Holocaust (which is really interesting). So I pretty much...

Our St. Patrick's Day and other such stuff.
colcannon 09 003, originally uploaded by themissiah. Our St. Patty’s Day was pretty calm, like it has been for the past few years. I usually make some colcannon and veggie sausage links and we have a simple dinner. We don’t drink much, anymore, and beer makes me feel like I’m dying, so we usually don’t do Guinness or anything - unless we go out. Other than that, we...

Spring Break!
Pics 030709 082, originally uploaded by themissiah. I’ve been out, today, mailing stuff and running a couple of errands. Patsy couldn’t care less about the catnip. She’s just curious about...

I’m about to get up and do some laundry, some reading, and just enjoy this weather overall. The above picture was taken at Mojo Burrito, in Chattanooga - on the back patio. I loved the...

I’ve realized this journal has become more talk-y and less creative. I have been creating, lately, just not as much as I’d like to. With school and such, it is very difficult. Yellow Day 5
Yellow Day 5 Originally uploaded by themissiah This is the birdfeeder outside our back porch. The cats can see this feeder very well. That’s why it was placed there. They sit and chatter at the birds all of the time. Patsy has now started chattering. She previously would just sit and watch Two-Tone and not chatter. I think he has taught her something as a big kitty brother.
